Carly Simon, 78, is in mourning after the death of Broadway composer Lucy Simon from breast cancer, only a day after former opera singer Joanna Simon died from thyroid cancer.

A person close to Carly has confirmed both deaths—Lucy at age 82 and Joanna at age 85, though she has not yet made any public statements.

Richard L. Simon, the Founder of the publishing house Simon Schuster, and his wife Andrea, a civil rights activist and singer, had three children, Carly, Lucy, and Joanna– all born in New York.

Both of them then pursued independent careers, although Lucy later found fame as the composer of the Broadway musical "The Secret Garden," for which she received a Tony nomination.

She later contributed to the theatrical production of "Doctor Zhivago" and the HBO movie "The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom" by composing the music.

She had been working on the musical adaption of the 2015 book "Our Souls At Night," "On Cedar Street," before her condition worsened.

Joanna made her theatrical debut in 1962 as Mozart's Cherubino at the New York City Opera. She also appeared on stage with the New York Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

She eventually went on to serve until 1992 as the arts correspondent for PBS's "MacNeil-Lehrer News Hour," after which she engaged in real estate activities.
