Leonardo DiCaprio to testify in trial of former rapper Pras Michel on money laundering charges

Pras Michel, founder of the group Fugees, was charged in 2019 with participating in a campaign finance conspiracy during the 2012 presidential election.

And one of the important witnesses in the case will be Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Oscar winner for The Revenant will be one of 72 witnesses appearing in the case prepared by the Justice Department against Prakazrel "Pras" Michel.

Michel has been accused, on four-count indictment, of conspiring with Jho Low -a Malaysian fugitive financier, to make and conceal foreign campaign contributions.

Pras allegedly used straw donors to give great campaign contributions to an unnamed U.S. presidential candidate.

Jho Low was accused by several U.S. officials of a money laundering and bribery scheme that pilfered billions from the Malaysian state investment fund known as 1MDB. But Low remains free.

DiCaprio was subpoenaed to testify because some of that laundered money was used to pay for jewelry, artwork and was allegedly used to finance several Hollywood films, including The Wolf of Wall Street.

The Department of Justice filed charges in 2018 against Jho Low and two former Goldman Sachs bankers in a money laundering and bribery scheme allegedly created to boost economic development projects.

Other witnesses to testify include former White House chief of staff John Kelly, former deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger and casino mogul Steven Wynn.
