She and her sister, Venus Williams, were steered towards tennis at a very early age.

Her father, Richard Williams and mother Oracene Price served as her official coaches.

When Serena was nine, she and her family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida so she could attend Rick Macci's tennis academy.
